This article outlines the management of People, Roles, and Clusters. It describes three main modules: People for adding and managing individuals, Clusters for grouping people for filtering purposes, and Roles for defining individual contributions in Productions. Users can create personal pages, link individuals to productions, and customize the display of people on web pages using various templates and filters.
In the Dashboard you will find three modules in the People section:
- People: Here you can add People and manage all People related content
- Clusters: A way to group People (into clusters). Clusters can be used as filters on several pages, so they are very useful. You can create as many clusters as you like.
- Roles: Every person has a role in a production. In this module you can add a general set of all the roles you want to use throughout your website.
The People module
To add new people, select Add.
Type: Person / Group
A Person is an individual with first name and Surname.
If you choose the option "Group" you can add a theatre company or musical band as a whole. This would then be one item. If you want to specify band members as individuals, don't use the "Group" option, but just create the individual "Persons".
Personal pages
You can enable automatic personal pages for each person/group just by checking the box. Choose whether you want to show all related productions and/or stories that are linked to this person. Once activated, a person or group on your website will automatically be clickable and link to a personal page. (Layout of this page can be changed in the "People detail" section in the Routes & parts module)
If you want more than a simple personal page, you can also create your own bespoke page for a person, add linked stories and productions and more content. Check out the section "Creating custom biography pages" at the bottom of this article for more information.
Once you created your own bespoke biography page, just paste the page url into the "Custom personal page" field you see above. This will overrule the link to the automatic personal page.
Don't forget to upload a nice photo, and click Save.
The Clusters module
Clusters are used to filter different subsets of people on your website. This can be used to give different sets of people a different look on your website, or to include/exclude subsets on particular pages.
Think about if you want different subsets of people and create your clusters accordingly.
For instance, you can create clusters "Big", "Regular" and "Small" to use as a filter for different parts that show that cluster of people with big photo's, small photo's or just as a list.
The name of the Cluster will be displayed above the People Part on a Production or Story page.
When multiple people parts are used, they all can now have different headings, based on the Clusters that are used in the people part.
The Roles module
Every person has a role in a production. However the role can be different for a person in different productions or stories. In this module you can add a general set of all the roles you want to use throughout your website. Assigning roles to people is not done here, that happens when you connect people to a specific production or story.
How to Link People to a Productions or Story
Go to a Story or Production page in your Dashboard. At the bottom of the page you will find the People section.
Select Add and choose the person (or group) from the first drop-down list. You can also search in that box, which is usually quicker when you have a lot of people.
All people you add to this Production will be displayed here in a nice overview.
A drag&drop feature enables you to change the order of the added people.
Choose a Cluster
Choose one or more roles. Roles are specific for the person in this production or story. For different productions/stories you can select different roles for the same person.
Now you are done with all your content! You created people, clusters, roles, and linked people to productions and stories, assigning them specific clusters and roles per production/story.
Adding People to your Website
Featuring people on your website can be done in different ways:
People on Production Pages
To display People on a Production page, add the part "People (for a production)" to your production page System> Routes & parts module.
In this example we have added three People parts, based on three different filters.
Each part displays a different cluster, and has a different template. Templates determine the look of items within the part, just like anywhere else on the website.
You can select different templates to display your people. Some examples:
Combining multiple parts with different settings can create great overviews of different subsets of people in different layouts.
Every part has the same title. If you use multiple parts, you can hide the title of the following part to prevent the title to be repeated above all parts.
People on a Page or Story page
To display people on a page or story page, just select the "People" part in the part dropdown on your page or story and click "add".
In the "People" part you can display all people at once, or filter on cluster or role to make a sub selection of people you want to show.
You can use the "People" part multiple times with different filters (roles, clusters) and add the same "variant" parameters here as we used on the production page to create different looks for each part.
Check the box "Only people for this page" to show only the people you have linked to this page/story. With the clusters and roles filters you can narrow that selection down even further.
Creating custom biography pages (with productions and stories)
For each person, you can create a bespoke biography page. Add all biography content you want in the usual way.
- Make sure you add the person you are creating the biography page for to your page/story.
- Add the "Events (via people)" part to display all productions that are linked to this person.
- Add the "Stories" part to display all stories that are linked to this person by using the filters in the part.
